ABOUT THE EVENT

Greetings, Big Bad BookClub Baddies!

Our next read is taking us into the fall season, kicking off Latine Heritage Month and inching us closer to spooky season.

We will be reading The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is the author of Mexican Gothic, Velvet Was the Night, and so many more great books. I'm excited about this read and have heard great things!

You can purchase the physical book, ebook, and/or audiobook on our website. You're also welcome to check it out from the library or Libby!

Here's our reading schedule:

September 22: Read pages 1-130 (Sections 1-12), audiobook approximately 33%

October 6: Read pages 131-245 (Sections 13-24), audiobook approximately 66%

October 20: Read pages 246-363 (Sections 25-36), audiobook finish the book!

The book is 400 pages, but the story ends around page 363. Feel free to read the rest of the content if you'd like. I'll send out some questions closer to our next session.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Also…did you all see that happy hour is extended at El Sueñito?! Monday-Friday from 2-6pm! Woohoo!

Here's a short description from Bookshop.org:

“Back then, when I was a young woman, there were still witches.”

Nana Alba has always told her great-granddaughter Minerva stories about witches and her childhood in 1900s Mexico. Years later, Minerva becomes a graduate student studying horror literature and begins researching Beatrice Tremblay, an obscure author whose most famous novel, The Vanishing, was inspired by the mysterious disappearance of her college roommate during the Great Depression.

As Minerva digs deeper into Tremblay's life and manuscripts, she begins to suspect that the supernatural force that haunted Tremblay and the missing girl may still be walking the halls of the university. And the mystery echoes Nana Alba's own terrifying encounter with a witch decades earlier.

Soon, Minerva finds herself caught between the stories of three generations of women—and wondering whether the past is really the past.
