WHERE STORIES & COMMUNITY BLEND

Welcome to Queer Book Club at El Sueñito Brewing Seattle and Frelard Tamales! All gender expressions and sexual orientations are welcomed. Join us from 7pm - 9pm every Wednesday to read and discuss books with queer themes or characters written by queer authors. Every month we select a different book, mixing up subject and genre for variety, and break it down into four parts for easy reading over the month.

The first hour of every QBC meeting is for reading at book club reserved tables and enjoying our special early happy hour prices on food and drinks. Our second hour is for discussing the section of the book we've read this week and socializing.

OUR CURRENT READ

This June we are reading a different short work from James Baldwin each week. I will attach digital links to all the pieces we're reading and plan to print out copies for reading in the taproom during book club. Week 1 (June 4th): Short Stories- The Rockpile & The Outing, Week 2 (June 11): Excerpt- Another Country, Week 3 (June 18): The Male Prison & My Dungeon Shook / A letter to my Nephew, Week 4 (June 25): Story- Sonny's Blues. This month we will also provide digital or printed copies for these short readings. But you still get a copy by James Balwin at Charlie's Queer Bookstore!

OUR NEXT READ

In July we are reading Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza, a 1987 semi-autobiographical work by Gloria E. Anzaldúa that examines the Chicana/o and Latina/o experience through the lens of issues such as gender, identity, race, and colonialism.

FAQs

DO I NEED TO ATTEND EVERY WEEK?

No! Come as often as you are able. Attendees who complete 24 club meetings within a year will receive a $30 gift card to Charlie's Queer Books.

HOW IS THE READING STRUCTURED?

We split each book into 4 weeks. The first hour (7-8pm) is dedicated to reading together, and the second hour (8-9pm) is for discussion and socializing.

DO I NEED TO READ AT HOME?

Both in-club and at-home reading are encouraged. We read during the first hour of meetings, and depending on the book length and your reading speed, you may want to read at home too.

HOW CAN I SUGGEST A BOOK?

Email tasha@elsuenitobrewing.com with your suggestions. Books are planned several months in advance to ensure availability at our partner bookstore.

WHERE CAN I GET THE BOOKS?

We recommend Charlie's Queer Bookstore in Fremont. Use code BREWBOOKS for 10% off your purchase! Books are also available through libraries, audiobook platforms like Libby, or your preferred book retailer.
